About the CARAS Research Program

In addition to supporting external research activities, CARAS sponsors and conducts research studies that focus on various topics that address kink/Leather/BDSM/fetish communities and people, associated sex work, and consensual non-monogamy communities and people. CARAS research studies undergo a rigorous process of development, community input, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval prior to implementation, and are subject to independent oversight throughout the life of the study.

Currently active projects include the Research Volunteers project. CARAS-affiliated researchers have additional research studies under development that will be announced following IRB approval, including human subjects research studies developed by CARAS Research Fellows.
